Project Overview

ACEnergy successfully developed the Yanco Battery Energy Storage System (BESS), a 250 MW / 1,000 MWh battery project located near Yanco in the Riverina region of New South Wales. The project was originated, secured, developed and approved by ACEnergy as part of our commitment to accelerating Australia’s clean energy transition.

Following the completion of development activities and project approvals, ACEnergy sold and transferred ownership of the Yanco BESS project to BW ESS in July 2026. BW ESS is the project’s long-term owner and operator.

ACEnergy is no longer involved in the project’s development, construction, or operation.

Delivering a Ready-to-Build Energy Storage Project

The Yanco BESS was developed to strengthen the local electricity network and support greater integration of renewable energy into the grid. By providing large-scale energy storage capacity, the project helps improve network reliability and supports more stable electricity supply across the Riverina region.

ACEnergy led all major development activities, including:

  • Site identification and land acquisition
  • Environmental and technical assessments
  • Community and stakeholder engagement
  • Grid connection
  • Power Purchase Agreement secured
  • Planning approvals and regulatory processes
  • State Significant Development (SSD) approval
  • Delivery of an approved project design and layout

The project received approval following a comprehensive assessment process and was subsequently refined through an approved SSD Modification to optimise project design and delivery outcomes.

Community

Meaningful community engagement was central to the project’s development.

Throughout the planning process, ACEnergy worked closely with local residents, landholders, government agencies and Leeton Shire Council to understand community priorities and incorporate feedback into project planning.

This engagement helped inform project design decisions and supported the establishment of a $3 million Voluntary Planning Agreement (VPA) with Leeton Shire Council, paving the way for lasting community benefit associated with the project.

Our Role

Yanco BESS demonstrates ACEnergy’s capability to identify, develop and secure approval for large-scale energy infrastructure projects in regional Australia.

From early-stage project origination through to development approval and project transfer, ACEnergy delivered a high-quality, investment-ready battery energy storage project that supports Australia’s transition to a cleaner and more reliable energy future.

Important Notice

Yanco BESS is owned by BW ESS, which is responsible for the project’s construction, ownership and operation. ACEnergy originated and developed the project prior to its sale to BW ESS in July 2026.
