Strategic 5MW BESS projects for regional Australia to enhance energy resilience and facilitate the renewable energy transition.

Distributed Battery Energy Storage Portfolio (D-BESS)

ACEnergy is delivering a portfolio of standalone 5 MW / 2-hour battery energy storage systems (BESS), connected directly to local distribution networks across regional Australia. These batteries are designed to store excess solar energy during the day and release it when demand is highest — helping to stabilise the grid, reduce costs, and unlock more renewable generation.
The full portfolio includes around 30 sites to be delivered in three phases, providing a flexible, fast-to-deploy solution that supports both local communities and the broader energy transition.

Why D-BESS matter

Australia’s shift to renewable energy is accelerating, and battery storage is essential to keep the grid stable and affordable. Distribution-connected batteries play a unique role by delivering storage close to where energy is used — helping manage peak demand, reduce network losses, and support rooftop solar.

Each project:

  • Supports more local solar energy and helps avoid costly grid upgrades
  • Helps stabilise voltage and reduce the risk of blackouts
  • Charges during the day and discharges during the evening when demand is highest

Smart Project Locations

The batteries are sited near regional town centres and existing substations — close to demand, easy to access, and capable of supporting local energy needs without the need for major grid upgrades. Compared to large-scale transmission-connected batteries, D-BESS offers:

  • Faster delivery and simpler planning requirements
  • Lower environmental impact and land use
  • Better acoustic performance and compact site layouts

Phase 1 Delivered

ACEnergy has successfully delivered the first phase of the D-BESS portfolio: seven 5 MW / 2-hour battery systems across regional Victoria, completed in under 12 months. This phase was delivered in partnership with investment partner Sustainable Energy Infrastructure (SEI).

  • Fully developed by ACEnergy and built by ACLE Services under full-wrap EPC contracts
  • All sites connect to existing local infrastructure, reducing cost and complexity
  • Each site created 10 construction jobs and one ongoing operational role

Looking Ahead

With future phases already in development, the portfolio is designed to scale and adapt to the changing needs of the energy system. Our focus remains on flexible delivery, long-term value, and working closely with local communities from day one.

Together with ACLE, ACEnergy is proud to deliver reliable, local storage solutions that support Australia’s clean energy future.
