Project Overview

Located on the edge of the Bouldercombe township, the Central BESS will contribute to Queensland’s transition to cleaner energy. It will store electricity during periods of low demand and feed it back into the grid at times of high demand. The project will pave the way for a more stable grid, and reliable and affordable power for Queenslanders.

The Central BESS is proposed to connect directly to Bouldercombe Terminal Station at 275kV. This proximity will lower the cost of connection, keeping prices down for people and businesses, and mitigate impacts to the local environment.

Working with the community

We are committed to continuing to work collaboratively with the local community and their representatives to understand and address key concerns so we can develop a project that delivers long-term benefits, including $3m in benefit sharing funds. Together with relevant experts, we are shaping a project that prioritises safety, contributes to the region’s energy future and creates economic opportunities for local people and businesses.

The Central BESS project will deliver $3 million in benefit sharing funds to neighbours of the project, the local community, and First Nations groups. Through support for grassroots initiatives, scholarships, education programs, and enduring partnerships with local organisations, the project will drive meaningful and lasting outcomes in the region. These contributions are designed to foster long-term social, cultural and economic benefits that reflect community priorities, and we will work with the local community to develop the benefit sharing program.

In addition, the project will boost local procurement and supply chain opportunities, generate construction jobs, and create ongoing employment during operations, supporting a thriving local economy throughout the life of the project.
